I'm so thrilled that these two yoga sisters/ friends showed up out of my pen! Theda and Veda. I think they are very funny women or as I like to call them, women who "get it!"

For ever and ever when I was in my twenties, Glamour Gal illustrations would emerge from my pens n' pencils. They seemed to all have some story that they would share with me as I doodled away. To say the least, they were always very entertaining. The Glam' Gals seem to be emerging again and most often they are sharing the key qualities that keep a Glam' Gal just that, Glam! And what's not to love about Glamour! I even love the word and had it in a frame for years!

Vanity Prints as bauwthroom art! Love it!

So my younger sister took a collection of my prints (of which many are available in my still new Vanity Gallery Etsy store and my VanityCases on-line store) and hung them in Dollar Store frames. I think they make for a very fabulous bauwthroom collection!

Hhmmm. I really should bump some of the collections of my kiddo's art and replace with mine! But then again, there's something about seeing their little lines, colors and text that makes my heart happy! Okay, we need more wall space, okay, we need more walls... okay!

Sneek Peek at Vanity Yoga Print series

I'm going to be offering 5x7 and/ or 8x10 prints of Vanity Yoga reflections in my on line stores. I'll be offering either standards size with a clean white matte. The paper is a sturdy, slightly textured card stock. I'm finding while creating, that they tend to look quite fab' in pairs and are likely, "For women only!"

Pricing: As with anything I create, I'm going to price very reasonably. I have what I think is a price in mind that I think would be fair if one bought this art anywhere from a Target store to a craft fair... Hmmmmm. The first person that emails me with what they would pay for such a print will rcv these two prints from me!

It's freebie from meebie Friday! I thought this bookmark shared a fab' philosophy with a fun image to be peeking out of a book. You can also use as small note cards to jot down those little things that are vital to staying fabulous! In the era of smart phones, iPads (I'm actually in love with mine) and electronic calendars, I'm from something called the "Franklin Planner" school of organizing and must, must, must write it down! And the "Charlie Brown Christmas Tree" theory is why I don't so much as go to the busstop with my second grader or drop off my pre-schooler without, at the very least, lipstick, powder & pearls.... and likely a bit of mascara, blush, some bracelets, a fabulous ring, a scarf, dark sunglasses and a bag... but other than that, I can fly outta' the house at a moment's notice!

Bout' time don't you think for a little fab' freebie?! I've posted a bookmark with lotsa' room to make notes. I offer a selection of bookmarks in my on line Vanity store, which can be a fab' little item to enclose in a birthday, coping or friendship card. The quantity and quality is wonderful but I also think if you print the images I've posted here, on card stock paper, they will be fun n' fab as well!

Every card starts with a doodle!

It all starts with a sketch and a random Vanity thought that pops into my head:

Then with the combination of pencils, pens, light box & often a touch of Photoshop, I create a polished Vanity Icon. Seems easy, but there are times I retrace and recolor the ensemble a zillion times!

Then "Ta Dah!" In the final stage I torment myself over the text until I feel the cover and inside copy has a certain "pace" and "I get it" quality. And then about an hour, day or even years later I look at the card and think how I can tweak it to make it better! Ah! The tortured artist!

I love what this character is saying, "I have bursts of thinking I should be more understated; Thank Gad they pass! Soooooooo true! No matter one's age, a little "icing" on any ensemble makes one look and feel great, or as I like to say, "Never underestimate the power of a hot pink feather boa!"

I've been asked to "de-age" some of my characters for a pretty big project, but I think a Glam' Gal image is as timeless as the era that inspired the drawing, which is of course Hollywood's Golden era!

And whether you wear lipstick, lip gloss or a balm, don't you think the message holds true???!!!

Rockin' the skinny jean!

I spent a few days in NYC this week and from the Mainline suburbs of Philadelphia, all of a sudden I felt like I was from a farm in comparison to the high fashion that looms the city sidewalks! While navigating cross town after emerging from the Holland Tunnel (I always drive to the city), what stood out far more than the canyons of skyscrapers was the fabulous skinny jean! And the good news is, there were interpretations for women of all ages!

Key to the look or any look for that matter in the city is the requisite scarf wrapped umpteen times around the neck! To be sure that is seen here in the burbs of Philadelphia, but it's x 10 in the city!
Just thought I'd share!

I'm often trying to update or as I say, freshen up my cards design style without straying from my very clean look. I like to let the image and words breath so I don't fill up with too much design. Accessories yes, too much design; no. I thought I'd try a bit of coordinating striping. Hhhhhmmm.

Do you know how much money you save me in therapy?!

Just playing here ... but this might be a fresh way to design my cards that often have much clean white space (see here) and yet it stills keeps the design integrity. While I'm playing with design ideas, most importantly, the woman-to-woman messages remain the same for us Fabulous women who "get it!"

Hopefully, if my two year old has any respect for my "to do" list, I"ll be posting something fabulous and free to download today or tomorrow... that's my goal but two year olds have little respect for such things!

Okay, there's two ways to do this; you can click the image & when you see it enlarged on your screen, select PRINT and Ta' Dah' you are done. Or you can "right click" and drag to your desk top and print. Fold the paper in half horizontally and vertically for the cut-lines.

I had to tweak this layout what seemed like a millionty times & if for some reason any of the design is cut off when you print, please send me a message and I'll send you the file. I did this Glam' Gal drawing quite some time ago and I still really like the retro gal who [to me] oozes Glamour from a bygone era! Usually when I set my mind to a project I work pretty fast. I started creating Little Edie images for greeting/ note cards, prints early this summer just before we went to China to adopt our second child and I am still in the creative process as we near the end of summer! Who knew how much our (2 year old) Daisy would throw me off my work schedule?! I mean really, between her and my six year old daughter, one realizes children, just like let's say a millionty cats, are so demanding ... but so warm and fuzzy as well ... so I guess it all works!

And I hope my Little Edie images work! I'm may create a Little Edie bookmark that can be printed from this site (just like my previous Vanity bookmarks). So I'm having both a hoot and a frustrating time working on a card concept that was suggested and/ or requested. I know I'm gonna' "get it" and like what I'm drawing but it's not quite in focus yet! But just as Little Edie needs her "head wardrobe" to be complete, I can't think of working without being properly accessorized! So yes, even on the hottest days I have bubble gum sized pearls on my neck or wrist and almost always black sunglasses pulling my hair back... but doesn't everybody? -

I call this card "Yoga Shoes" and it's one of my faves. I say always take time for "sole" searching it's good for the "sole!" What is it about shoes that makes us feel so fabulous? Even in working from home, I have to wear a slightly fab' or decent shoe and always, but always my (requisite) red lipstick! I guess I think I'm giving the illusion of being put together from top-to-bottom... and it is most surely an illusion but so easy-to-achieve! For me, Vanity is my Sanity! As we are going on the 4th week of awaiting travel approval to travel to China for our second daughter, I read a Taoist meditation about finding the calm from within, whereupon I interpreted with a Vanity Cases character. I figured we would probably have another week before we would rcv' Travel Approval. And what do you know? After my exercise walk and then (10 minute) meditation, I checked email and there it was; our Travel Approval! I am at once beyond thrilled, and happy but more than anything, at peace.

How can one not love accessories and in particular pearls I ask you? They can take two simple pieces of clothing i.e. jeans an a white T-shirt from blah to Ta - Dah!!! I mean think about it; whether a single strand or better yet, gum ball sized pearls around the neck and/ or wrist, a pair of black sunglasses, and perhaps a lil' red lipstick and one is instantly transformed into fabu'sessesnce!
